The Environment and Recreation Directorate is responsible for the delivery of the following services: Water & Drainage (on behalf of Irish Water), Waste Management Waste Operations and Recreation & Sport . Our approach to care for the Environment is based on the principle of sustainable development i.e. “development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs”. Cork City Council, in its role as a provider of services such as waste collection, recycling facilities, water and drainage can undertake measures to protect the environment we live in, nevertheless there is a duty on everybody to make their contribution in the area of environmental care.

The deadline for the receipt of Local Partnership Agenda 21 Grant Applications has been extended to 5 pm on Wednesday 9th September 2015.
Local Agenda 21 Environmental Partnership Fund 2015
Applications are invited for projects or initiatives that could help to increase awareness of environmental issues locally, or that could help communities become more sustainable. The Local Agenda 21 (LA21) Environmental Partnership Fund 2015, jointly funded by the Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government, and Cork City Council, makes financial assistance available for projects that promote sustainable development by assisting small scale, non-profit environmental projects at local level.
Projects should focus on environmental awareness and actions which complement national environmental policies such as those on waste, biodiversity, water conservation and climate change.
A wide variety of projects and schemes have been supported under the Fund in previous years, including community gardens and allotments, compost schemes, rainwater harvesting, biodiversity projects, waste reduction initiatives, educational initiatives and environmental exhibitions.
